[Study Breaks: Abroad Series] 21st in Paris, Planking, and Barcelona

So last Wednesday, June 29, I celebrated my 21st birthday in Paris! It was beyond incredible, though no one gave a crap because the drinking age is legally 18. Having to explain the concept of the US legal drinking age-in French- was difficult, to say the least. We pregamed at the Eiffel Tower, and it started pouring rain! We took shelter underneath the tower, and while drinking our own persy (personal) bottles, a French cop comes up and asks me if it’s my birthday (due to the feather head dress I was wearing). I tell him yes, and he gives me a ring full of eiffel tower keychains he copped from the illegal vendors. It was probably worth a gypsy’s entire life savings, but hey, now I have souvenirs for all my friends!

my birthday bash was dubbed: KC's 21st BLING BLING FLING

We celebrated my midnight countdown at a chic club called Le Duplex, in the Champs Elysees. Every Tuesday night they have an international student party AKA Erasmus Party. We got there just before they started charging a 15 euro cover, and the line to get in appeared to take 30 minutes, so my little birthday monster self pulled a smooth move. I went up to the bouncer and spoke in French, “C’est mon anniversaire! J’ai fait une réservation pour une table,” when in reality, I had never made a reservation, and we all got to cut the line and get in for free. Am I a baller or what?

Planking: What’s up with this new fad? I decided I’d participate, and so far so mother f’n good! I’ve planked in the most obscure places. According to this article, planking’s been around for some time and just recently hit the US.

And for my last weekend in Europe, I took a little trip to Barcelona, Spain, to visit some high school and college friends. Upon arrival, we went to a splendid little place called Travel Bar and had 1 euro meals! ONE EURO for a delicious, filling meal. Friday night we went to a bar called Shoko on the beach and got in for free because we were on the guest list (courtesy to our local friend, Ignasi!) #VIP #SWAG everyday, baby.

Rather than paying for 7 euro beers at the bar, we got stamps on our hands and got euro beers on the beach from the illegal vendors. I can’t even remember the last time I had a beer, really. In Europe, I consume a plethora of wine.

While in Shoko, the BEST remix came on… the Lion King Anthem! I am OBSESSED with this song and nearly had a conniption.

Around 4:30am I got the drunchies and decided to buy a sandwich on the beach; after eating nearly all of it, I kept asking, “What is this? It’s definitely not ham…not chicken…not turkey… what is this?” To which the vendor responds, “Spam!” SPAM. Are you kidding me? That is the first and last time I ever eat a spam sandwich. Barf.

Saturday, we spent the entire day on the beach! Did I mention clothing is optional? Did I also mention, I took that option? It was my first time to tan fully nude in public! At least I wasn’t the only one. Now I have zero tan lines, but my booty is a little pink. I think at some point in my life I will move to a nudist colony. Such a liberating experience!

butt naked in Barca- THIS is the life for me!

Saturday night we met up with our friend from Austin who is originally from Barcelona. Party in a penthouse? Yes I think so. He took us to this ultra swanky club and sat VIP at a table, drinking 10 euro drinks that were nearly the size of fish bowls.
