When did you start brewing your own beer?
I started brewing my own beer back in spring of 08.
Why do you brew your own beer?
At this point, I brew my own beer as a means to have really great tasting beer for a per bottle price that rivals Budweiser. There is also just the thrill of knowing that I did that myself, and the pride of showing off to other people.
Is it a complicated process to brew?
A beer is as complicated and simple as you want it to be. One could easily make a relatively tasty beer using nothing more than malted barely, hops, yeast and water. Personally I get into more detail and add roasted grains to the boil to bring a complexity to the flavor, also using various species of hops at different points of the brew process.
Where do you get your supplies?
I buy all my supplies through the Austin Homebrew Supply.
How much time do you invest in brewing your beer?
I invest about 4-10 hours per batch. Keep in mind, this is over the course of 2-3 weeks. A lot of brewing beer is simply waiting for the next step.
What do your friends say about your beer?
I’ve tested just about every batch I’ve made on my friends, coworkers and family, and I’ve yet to have a beer that wasn’t liked by them
How does your beer taste?
It tastes like the freshest, greatest beer you could ever drink. It’s a natural fermentation, unlike the big companies who pasteurize and artificially carbonate their beers. It never sits “heavy” in the stomach like most commercial beers, so you can never seem to get enough, and yet it satisfies well.
