It’s the Fourth of July, and I’ve got some good news and some bad news: The good news is that even though Austin has canceled traditional fireworks displays due to some serious drought, there is still plenty of Fourth fun to be had. The bad news is that you only have 63 more days to wear white from head to toe—go!
1. VinoPalooza at Flat Creek Estate
This event allows you to sample Texas Hill Country Wines from five area wineries. Enjoy food, music and of course, wine of the Texas variety from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. all for a $10 ticket at the door.
2. Corndog Bite Eating Contest
Head to the Black Sheep Lodge and participate (or watch) this event that serves as a fundraiser for Austin Pets Alive. To enter call 512.707.2744 and prepare to pay the $25 entry fee for a chance at the grand prize of $250.
3. Independence Day at the Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-in
Something about the Fourth makes being outside feel right, so save that other action movie you’ve been dying to see for tomorrow and go watch Will Smith be a hero (yes, again). By 9 p.m. you’re sure to be full of free barbecue and more than willing to buy a $25 car slot.
4. Unreal 360 and Travis Promotions Present: Barge Bash 6
No Austin summer is complete without a visit to Lake Travis. Use this celebration as your excuse to enjoy barbecue, DJs, and plenty of entertainment from 4 p.m. to 10p.m. Hopefully you’ve already purchased your ticket if you planned on attending this Lake Travis party, because from the looks of it, procrastinators may be out of luck.
