Last March, I was able to interview Brandon Rhyder at Lonestar Jam in Austin, TX. Might I add, that he was quite the character and was very fun to interview. If you haven’t heard of him yet– it’s about time you get in with the cool crowd, because with the fan base quickly going, you wouldn’t want to miss out on what’s next. Want to find out more information on Brandon’s (yes, I can say we are on a first term basis, DUH.) check out his new “Live at Billy Bob’s Texas” album and DVD quad-pack, which is currently available in stores and online.
Rhyder’s eighth album features eight new songs never before recorded, including “Lord I Hope This Day is Good” (featuring Radney Foster). Other new songs include “In the Country” (currently #13 on the Texas Music Chart), “No Where USA,” “Can’t Out Drink the Truth,” “Austin Avenue” (co-write with Pat Green) and “Lucky Man.”
Including tons of extras and bonus features, with back home segments in Rhyder’s hometown of Carthage, TX, a cooking segment (in the interview, he has said they cooked BBQ using the engine of the tour bus, WHAT?), renowned cameos and a segment entitled, “Story of the Songs,” where Rhyder explains the inspiration behind the tracks.
Brandon Rhyder is the 39th artist to record live at the legendary venue and had a clear vision for his “Live at Billy Bob’s Texas” album. New songs were definitely a top priority.
“I just didn’t want to play all previously released songs. I wanted the fans to have something different and something with some new perspective mixed in with the songs that helped get us to where we are now,” he says. Rhyder also adds, “There are so many great writers and performers out there that I admire and I have wanted to record these tracks for some time. I also relate to these songs, so I can sing them with ease and conviction, no pun intended. It’s nice to get to sing such great tunes.”
As always, Rhyder made sure to give the fans what they wanted, too. Songs like “Freeze Frame Time,” “Backroads,” and “Let the Good Times Roll” are all staples for any given Brandon Rhyder show. Trust me, I know. And fans here were definately able to catch it as well.
It’s easy to see and hear when you listen to this collection of tunes that Brandon really gave all he had on this recording, just like he does each and every night his feet touch the stage.
