Cows have invaded Austin and I’m not talking about you’re typical Texan Bevo. I’m talking about the Cow Parade. If you have been around downtown in the last couple of months you probably noticed a variety of uniquely decorated cows. They are spread sporadically across town in some of the more popular parts of the city.
The cow parade is a charity event that is sponsored by different organizations depending on the city. In Austin the cow parade is partnered with the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas and the Superhero Kids Fun to raise money for sick children and children’s education. It has been on display since July 27 and will continue until Oct. 16. On this date the cows will be taken down for an auction on Oct. 30. The top 50 cows will be sold to the highest bidder and the money will be given to charity.
How much would you spend on a cow? Some cows have gone for $10,000! Overall the cow parade has raised around $30 million for different charity programs across the world. Pretty cool, huh? It’s amazing that Austin gets to participate in such a cool event. I’m not really surprised, Austin does know how to keep it weird and cool.
My advice is to not miss your chance to see the cows first hand and snap a pic with your favorite one! This is definitely something you have to see to enjoy, but if you live to far from Austin or just don’t have time to check out the herd, check out this link for the cow gallery.
Tweet me your own pics of the cows @allisonasbury.

I worked at Hahn, Texas Communications this summer, and CowParade was one of our clients! I helped set them all up at the Long Center for the last picture, and we all helped plant them all over Austin. Crazy! Glad everyone is enjoying them
I love the fact that they chose Austin to participate in this world-wide charity event! I will have to go snap a picture with one while they are still in town
