Spring semester is approaching, which means it is the time of the year where junior and seniors are fleeing everywhere looking for internships opportunities. Yes, The University of Texas does offer job fairs in many of the college departments, but sometimes they might not be for everyone!
You might have missed it because your resume is not perfected, you don’t want to sell your self through “speed dating” with 30+ tables, get all fresh from head to toe and walk on to campus, the list goes on …
Put down the inhaler my friends, there are other opportunities and internships you can find elsewhere!
1. Join Organizations
No matter how big or small they are, join organizations that you are interested in, especially they are for your major! Most organizations on campus are very involved with our community; therefore they have enormous of connections with local companies! Not only you can meet new friends or have an excuse to talk to the hot guy that is in your stat class, you may find a connection for an internship as well!
2. Visit shows, fairs, and events
We live in the most interesting city in Texas, there are many things you can dive yourself in. You can skip that one party this weekend and go out downtown for an art show, get your self-involved in the city. You might meet the recruiter of some big company while you are grocery shopping at Whole foods or volunteering at some community service events on Barton Springs.
3. Don’t underestimate your friends
They may be the same age as you, but they might hold some valuable connections in their back pockets you don’t know about, talk to them!
4. Approach your professors/TA
Most college professors are very knowledgeable in their fields. They might be in some prestige organizations or clubs you don’t know about. Get on their good sides ask for advices!
5.Make a LinkedIn page!
Check it out! It is a professional Facebook page, join networks, make connections, and get referrals!

Don’t forget about online resources! Internships.com has over 40,000 internships listed, and it’s free to search & apply.
I totally agree about asking friends and meeting people at events. Let it be known all around that you are looking for an internship, you never know who is around listening!
