The X-Factor: A Show We Have (Never?) Seen Before.

With all the hype surrounding Simon Cowell’s new show, The X-Factor, I decided to give the show a chance. I was told by numerous commercial advertisements that this show was going to be something I have never seen before. Something I have never seen before? I thought I was having deja vu or something because this show slightly resembles that one show….what was it called?

oh right, Simon Cowell’s other show, you may remember it, I think it was called American Idol? How the hell is this show any different from American Idol?

Apparently it is. There are 4 Judges that are totally different from the judges in American Idol. There’s Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and L.A Reid, a black record executive and producer. Wait, hold on a second… that sounds a lot like American Idol but Randy was replaced with some other big name producer.

Okay, if the judges are the same then what’s different?

The X-Factor has changed the age limits to no limits compared to American Idol whose age limits are 15-28 years old. You can be 5 to try out or 100 to try out. I can already see fans voting in the 89 year-old just to see what happens with no intentions of ever purchasing their album if they win the record deal.

And that brings us to the last difference. The winners of The X-Factor will receive $5 million versus American Idol’s measly $1 million dollar prize. Beat that American Idol! HA!

$5 million dollars is a whole lotta money, hopefully this show doesn’t flop. Well, it doesn’t look good right now. Ratings dropped 11% from last week — the show brought in a 3.9 with adults 18-49, landing them just over 11 million viewers. That wasn’t enough to compete with CSI, Criminal Minds or Modern Family, who brought in 13 million+ viewers. If it can’t compete with them then I’m not sure if they can compete with American Idol or Dancing With The Stars who pulls in 16 million viewers per show.

I guess we will have to see what happens?
